A-Team Solutions is seeking (4) four Health Technicians for full time positions at the VA hospital in Denver, CO.

Responsibilities

Job Duties:

 

  1. Is primarily responsible of this position for the proper collection and handling of venous blood. Blood is collected throughout the day in designated blood collection areas. The incumbent collects blood samples by venipuncture and correctly labels all blood tubes. The incumbent instructs patients on proper specimen collection procedures.

 

  1. Properly identifies the patient by checking patient ID card for outpatients for correct identification and with verbal confirmation when possible. The computer print-out labels MUST match the armband information.

 

  1. Correct selection of collection tubes is required. Specimen must be collected properly and in adequate quantity for accurate analysis. Changes can occur that may lead to erroneous results if incorrect anticoagulant, incorrect blood/anticoagulant ratios, or improper collection techniques are utilized.

 

  1. Uses the hospital computer system when processing specimens. Samples are accepted into the computer for testing or the order removed from the computer if samples are not collected. Protects the security of the computer system and maintains patient confidentiality.

 

  1. Receives, validates, processes and distributes specimens to the proper laboratory section for testing. This includes assuring the proper specimen was collected, patient identification on the tube is correct, accessioning the specimens, proper action for the specimen (e.g. centrifugation, aliquoting and storing specimens) and distribution to the

proper section for testing. STAT requests must be promptly delivered to all sections of the laboratory.

 

  1. Receives and accessions specimens from Denver VA Medical Center inpatients, outpatients, outside laboratories, other VA Medical Centers, and research studies.

 

  1. Follows proper infectious disease controls by following Standard Precautions and using correct Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE). The incumbent follows established safety policies, and attends mandatory safety training.

 

  1. Maintains a clean work environment. The incumbent assists maintaining the draw stations and stocking supplies.

 

  1. Is responsible for acceptance of ward order entry, or entry of the laboratory test into the computer. Follows computer requirements such as entering correct collection time. Obtains computer generated labels for specimens and aliquots.

 

  1. Performs routine tasks associated with the computer operation, such as, but not limited to, handling paper and labels for printers, calling up data from the computer and reporting it to the clinical staff when requested by phone, faxing results to health care providers, and monitoring the performance of the computer and printers.

Qualifications

 

Requirements:

 

 

  1. Health Technicians are required to have knowledge of phlebotomy and specimen processing. Must also be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population and possess great attention to detail for the nature of the work performed. Must have at least one year of documented experience performing phlebotomy duties in a hospital setting and have phlebotomy certification.

 

  1. Health Technicians will be required to perform specimen collection and processing eight-hour shifts between 0500 – 1730, as assigned. Overtime work, as well as some weekends and holidays, may occasionally be required.

 

  1. Health Technicians must have experience performing phlebotomy on adult and elderly patients, collecting urine and fecal specimens, and specimen processing.
